This guide supports American Studies I and II class research and assignments.

What are Secondary Sources?

Secondary sources were published or created by people who did not experience or participate in the events firsthand, and so are at least one step removed from the event. They often provide summaries, background information, or interpretation of primary sources and events.

Examples include: biographies, books, conference proceedings, essays, journal articles (not presenting new research), literary criticism, and radio or television documentaries.

Use the pages at the left or links below to access secondary sources by format.

Searching the Catalog

MoLib's Universal Search can search and retrieve all secondary sources in the Library's collection. Filter your search by format (peer-reviewed article or book, for example), publication date, or subject. Click the material title or green full text online button to access the resource.
