CRAAP Test

With the abundance of information sources available to us, we must be discerning when selecting which to use in our research. The CRAAP test is a tool for evaluating and selecting which sources to use.

You will ask these types of questions when considering which sources to use.

  • Currency
    • When was this work created?
    • Has it been updated or superseded?
    • Is it out-of-date for the context of my research?
  • Relevance
    • How does this relate to your research topic?
    • Who is the intended audience?
  • Authority
    • Who created this work and what is their background?
    • What is their expertise on this topic?
  • Accuracy
    • What is their methodology?
    • What are their sources of information?
    • Is the information supported by evidence?
    • Has their work been reviewed or refereed?
  • Purpose
    • What is the purpose of this information?
    • What biases are present?
    • What level of objectivity or subjectivity is involved?

Other Ways to Evaluate

Another method for evaluating sources is called ABCD, which asks similar questions to the CRAAP test.
