Social Explorer Guide

This guide contains an introduction and tutorial for Social Explorer, a visualization and data-mapping tool recommended for Data Science research.

What is Social Explorer?

Social Explorer is a visualization and data-mapping tool with thousands of data indicators across demography, economy, crime and more. This resource contains historical and contemporary datasets and is useful for a variety of research including Data Science and Humanities.

How do I access it?

Option 1: Use the direct resource link (recommended).

1. https://login.proxy216.nclive.org/login?url=https://resources.nclive.org/socialexplorer

2. Save this direct link.

3. Access using your NCSSM email and password.


Option 2: Access through the Library website

1. Visit https://www.ncssm.edu/residential/ncssm-morganton/morganton-library.

3. Select S and scroll down to Social Explorer.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

4. Authenticate using your NCSSM email and password.


Option 3: Access through NC LIVE

1. Visit nclive.org 

2. Select Browse All Databases on the bottom right of search bar

3. Select S and choose Social Explorer.

4. Under Choose your library, select NC School of Science and Mathematics-Morganton.
