  • Damage fees may range from 25-75% of the book's replacement cost depending on severity.

Additional Information

Helpful Notes

  • You are responsible for books checked out to you.
    • If you switch books with someone and do not notify the Textbook Manager, you are still accountable for returning the books that were checked out on your account.
  • Textbooks are due at the end of each semester.
    • In the Fall, textbooks become overdue after the semester ends. You have an overdue grace period until the start of the Spring semester before they are considered lost, and you are charged to replace them.
    • In the Spring, we are unable to offer a grace period. Textbooks are due by the final day of the semester.
  • You will be charged to replace your books, if we do not receive them at the end of the grace period.
    • We need your textbooks back at the end of each semester in order to prepare for the next student who needs your books.
    • The replacement fee is deducted from the student account deposit you and your family paid when you enrolled at NCSSM.
    • The Textbook Manager will send you instructions on how to replenish your deposit in order to pay these fees.
  • Your books should be returned in good condition.
    • No sticky notes, handwriting, highlighting, or bookmarks.
    • Minimal curling of page corners and bent covers.
  • If your book is returned damaged, you will be charged the following:
    • Surface damages repaired in-house: $10.00 or 25% of retail cost
    • Usable, fair condition: 50% of retail cost
    • Full replacement, unusable: 100% of retail cost

Tips

  • Alert staff to any damages when you receive your books so you are not charged for them.
  • Take photos of the condition of your books when you receive them.
  • Write your name on a sticky note and add that note to the inside cover of your books. This is helpful if you lose them or get them mixed up with a peer’s.
  • Remove any sticky notes or bookmarks before returning your books.
  • Flatten covers and pages before returning your books.
